New CANCOM Service Factory in Norderstedt lays the foundation for scalable rollouts, centralized provisioning, and efficient lifecycle services
For the IT service provider Dataport AöR, CANCOM is taking on the comprehensive provision and support of more than 100,000 IT workstations across six northern German states. The goal of the collaboration is stable, predictable, and scalable operations that provide long-term relief for government agencies and public institutions. It also represents the first major operational project for the new CANCOM Service Factory in Norderstedt.
Standardization as the foundation for reliable operations
As a central IT service provider, Dataport manages the workstation environments for state governments, municipalities, and public institutions in Schleswig-Holstein, Hamburg, Bremen, Saxony-Anhalt, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, and Lower Saxony. To secure this service offering in the long term, the company relies on a partner that manages and handles the entire supply chain—from logistics and stocking to configuration and rollout, all the way through to on-site service—in an integrated manner from a single source.
CANCOM assumes this responsibility for an entire contract term of up to eight years. The scope of services includes the provision of PCs, notebooks, monitors, printers, mobile devices, and accessories in clearly defined, standardized configurations. Separate supplier contracts ensure hardware availability even during volatile market phases. For IT organizations, this means significantly reduced procurement effort, clearly calculable costs, and a reliable supply of devices even for large quantities.
“Our task is not only to provide IT workstations, but also to reduce complexity and create predictability. Those who reliably manage over 100,000 clients gain operational reliability—and the freedom to focus on digital transformation and the core tasks of administration,” says Simone Liebich, Head of Field Service at Dataport AöR.
Stefan Schöllermann, Senior Vice President of the Northern Business Unit at CANCOM, emphasizes: “Managing end devices involves a significant amount of effort in many organizations: from selection and deployment to the return of old devices. At the same time, end-user requirements are increasing. We take over the entire lifecycle of IT workstations, relieve the IT organization of routine tasks, and ensure consistently efficient processes.”

End-to-end transparency across the entire lifecycle
ServiceNow serves as the central platform for order management, reporting, and asset management. It thus forms the operational backbone of lifecycle management. Integration with SAP and BMC Helix creates a seamless operational model without data silos. Tickets, inventory, and status information are managed consistently across all systems. This provides IT managers with transparent control over the entire lifecycle of end devices—from ordering to replacement. This facilitates capacity planning, governance, and compliance in equal measure. Sustainability aspects are also incorporated into the model, for example through efficient logistics processes and structured recycling concepts.
CANCOM Service Factory in Norderstedt as the operational backbone for the rollout
A central component of service delivery is the new CANCOM Service Factory in Norderstedt. The facility centralizes logistics, configuration, and quality testing of devices, thereby laying the foundation for the efficient implementation of large-scale workplace projects such as the one at Dataport.
Standardized processes allow large quantities of devices to be provisioned in parallel and prepared for rollout. The combination of centralized provisioning and regional field service enables short turnaround times, stable rollouts, and a reliable supply to the government agencies and institutions served by Dataport.
With the establishment of this second Service Factory, CANCOM is expanding its existing capacities for IT lifecycle services and creating the structural foundation to implement projects of this scale efficiently and scalably. CANCOM has been operating a Service Factory as its own logistics and service center in Jettingen-Scheppach, Bavaria, since 2018.
