- CANCOM experts from Germany, Austria and Switzerland presented leading digital solutions and services for the healthcare sector
- The focus was on the video consultation solution ‘CANCOM Telehealth Connect’ as well as the patient pathway 2.0 and the care room 2.0
- Trade visitors were given comprehensive advice on current topics such as IT security in the healthcare sector, care pathways and the use of artificial intelligence (AI)
CANCOM was once again represented at this year’s DMEA, Europe’s leading event for digital health, which took place from 9 to 11 April 2024. Following the keen interest and positive feedback from visitors last year, CANCOM had its own stand there for the first time and was also an official partner of this international industry event. An international team of healthcare experts from Germany, Austria and Switzerland welcomed interested parties and provided information on almost 100 square metres about current topics, such as the paths of care, from digital admission and patient empowerment to the digital patient room and the possible uses of AI in hospitals.
As a long-standing partner to the healthcare sector, CANCOM offers specialised solutions and services tailored to the specific scenarios of healthcare facilities. The CANCOM Healthcare team provided trade visitors with comprehensive advice on their individual challenges, taking into account the country-specific framework conditions and legal requirements, including security and data protection concepts.
‘We are delighted that we were able to welcome almost 400 visitors to our stand and would like to thank them for the interesting and informative discussions,’ says Gerhard Hacker, Senior Manager Healthcare, CANCOM, about DMEA 2024. ‘This response confirms that our solutions meet the needs of our customers to the letter. Patient Room 2.0 and the topics of cybersecurity in healthcare and the tumour board met with particularly great interest among visitors.’
Certified data protection-compliant and secure video consultations with CANCOM Telehealth Connect
One of this year’s highlights was the innovative consultation solution CANCOM Telehealth Connect. This is an important sub-component that enables healthcare facilities to offer their patients modern video consultations that meet all data protection and security requirements. Based on Webex technology, CANCOM Telehealth Connect acts as a standardised interface to establish a secure, certified connection from the provider to the front end. It not only provides security qualification and proof of data protection, but also ensures that only the information relevant to the video consultation is transmitted.
In contrast to conventional solutions, in addition to a one-to-one connection between the treating doctor and patient, this also enables a one-to-many scenario with any number of participants, for example with referring physicians or consultants. A digital waiting room can also be modelled in this way. The data traffic runs via a German high-security data centre. The solution can therefore be implemented agilely in any healthcare facility. At the DMEA, CANCOM offered interested parties the opportunity to see the ‘CANCOM Telehealth Connect’ solution live and in detail.
Patient pathway 2.0 and care room 2.0 provide relief
Another focus is on the digitalisation of the patient journey. Especially in busy healthcare facilities, the coordination and management of patient flows requires a lot of resources. CANCOM provides relief here and presented a practical solution at the DMEA: ‘PatientFlow’ offers intelligent 360° management of digital queues and thus enables an organised and efficient approach to patient administration, visitor management and appointment scheduling. The solution includes interactive terminals, mobile apps for tablets and smartphones as well as flexible communication, guidance and room information systems. This not only frees up staff time, but also optimises the patient experience. Patients no longer have to wait directly in front of a counter, but can spend time in different areas of the facility and stay informed at all times via a mobile ticket.
The use of LoRaWAN sensor technology minimises the administrative effort, manual documentation and monitoring in the hospital. Whether medication, blood refrigerators and plasma freezers or in the documentation of rinsing processes and room monitoring – sensor technology simplifies everyday hospital life in all areas. This topic was also presented in an exciting way at the DMEA.
The AMiS digital ward round trolley, which was also presented at the DMEA, provides even more relief. It provides nursing staff and doctors with a tool for efficiently measuring vital signs, digitally managing medication and easily documenting all steps. AMiS is an all-in-one workstation where vital signs are automatically stored in the patient file.
Artificial intelligence (AI) will help to further reduce risks in future
Artificial intelligence is also becoming increasingly relevant in the healthcare sector and interested parties were able to find out more about this at the CANCOM stand. CANCOM is already setting standards here and is a pioneer in AI-based diagnostic procedures and quality analyses in healthcare facilities. In a current research project, experts from CANCOM are working together with the Medical University of Graz on safe AI-supported medication with the aim of seamlessly securing the route of tablets to patients using intelligent image recognition processes. This will minimise the risk of incorrect dosing when distributing the tablets to the dispensing boxes or handing them over to patients. At the DMEA, visitors were introduced to the Hands-on AI solution, which can reduce the workload for carers while ensuring patient safety in hospitals.
Equipped against cyber threats in the healthcare sector
IT security also played an important role again at the DMEA, as the healthcare sector is one of the industries most affected by cyber attacks. It is essential that the IT landscape is fully secured, as in the worst-case scenario, human lives could be at risk. With this in mind, CANCOM’s specialists were on hand to advise trade visitors at the trade fair on how to take a holistic view of IT security and protect healthcare facilities from cyber attacks. Visitors were also given insights into current topics from the healthcare sector. The focus was on ways of providing care, securing medical devices and possible uses of AI in hospitals.
