CANCOM kicks off the 2024 training year: 107 new apprentices and dual students begin their careers in IT

CANCOM startet ins Ausbildungsjahr 2024
  • A total of 107 new apprentices and dual students started on September 1, 2024 at 17 CANCOM locations in Germany.
  • Trainee Welcome Days in Jettingen-Scheppach: Three days of full program and networking at the start of training.
  • Focus on modern and practical training through various trainee projects, e.g. in the field of artificial intelligence.

On September 1, 2024, 107 new apprentices and dual students started their professional future at CANCOM. This includes 91 apprentices and 16 dual students, 88 of whom are training in IT professions. The new young talents are spread across a total of 17 locations nationwide and were warmly welcomed at the annual Trainee Welcome Days in Jettingen-Scheppach from September 3 to 5.

Three days of Trainee Welcome Days at CANCOM

During the three-day Welcome Days, the new trainees and dual students were given a comprehensive insight into the company and their future areas of responsibility. The agenda included hands-on workshops on topics such as “Successful training”, “IT basics”, “My impact – etiquette for starting your career”, “Better safe than sorry” on the topic of cybersecurity as well as an insight into the careers of former trainees, a health workshop and a tour of the CANCOM Service Factory. In addition to content input, the focus was also on networking, so that the participants had plenty of time to get to know each other and make contacts across locations.

“What particularly impressed me about the Trainee Welcome Days was the successful balance between collegiality and professionalism at CANCOM. While clear and sensible guidelines were communicated on the one hand, we also had many opportunities to network with other trainees as well as long-term employees. Especially the informal corporate culture makes it easier to ask questions and make new contacts, is particularly helpful,” says Nick Buchta, dual student in Marketing Management at CANCOM, summing up the kick-off event.

Valuable promotion of young talent in times of skills shortage

Over the past four years, CANCOM has increased the number of its trainees by 17% – from 274 to 321 trainees and dual students. This is particularly remarkable given the low number of trainees due to demographic change and the declining interest of school leavers in training occupations – a challenge that many companies are currently struggling with.

“Our trainee program is invaluable, especially in times of skills shortages. It not only enables us to promote and develop young talent, but also secures the future of our company by training the next generation of skilled workers. An apprenticeship or dual study program offers an excellent alternative to full-time study and the development of graduates with us shows that there are different ways to make a successful career in IT,” emphasizes Claudia Ade, Senior Manager Trainees and Talents at CANCOM.

Practice-oriented training and innovative learning formats at CANCOM

CANCOM attaches great importance to trainees and dual students implementing their own projects at an early stage and gaining valuable practical experience in the same way as professionals. “With us, trainees take on responsibility in real projects, learn to work independently and thus acquire important skills and knowledge for their future careers,” explains Ade. “In this way, we not only promote technical know-how, but also important soft skills such as teamwork and independent action.”

CANCOM continuously invests in the further development of its award-winning training program and increasingly relies on digital solutions such as e-learning and live online exam preparation. At the same time, great importance is attached to personal exchange, which is why face-to-face offerings such as workshops and seminars are being further expanded. “Our aim is to offer our trainees future-oriented and varied training that is geared towards the dynamic requirements of our industry,” says Ade.
