- Münchenstift outsources complete IT infrastructure to secure and redundant data centers from CANCOM
- IT department and staff at Münchenstift have much less administrative work thanks to new digital workplace with self-service portal
- Thanks to this relief for employees and modern standards, those in need of care benefit from better care
Care facilities are facing enormous challenges due to an acute shortage of skilled workers and a simultaneous increase in the number of people in need of care. Nursing tasks are becoming more demanding and there is too little time to give those in need of care the attention they need. To relieve the burden on their nursing staff and improve care standards, Münchenstift, the largest care service provider in Munich, decided to work with IT service provider CANCOM to plan and implement a comprehensive digitization strategy as the basis for a first-class standard of care.
The situation in German nursing homes is more tense than ever – acute shortage of skilled workers, poor working conditions, more and more people in need of care, sluggish digitization. The situation is exacerbated by nursing documentation, which involves a great deal of administrative work. Nursing staff have to spend a lot of valuable time on this, which they could be using instead for the residents of the nursing homes. For this reason, Münchenstift, a non-profit subsidiary of the City of Munich and operator of 13 nursing and retirement homes with around 3,000 residents and provider of home care services, was looking for a solution that would standardize administrative work and thus relieve nursing staff in the long term.
Outsourcing the IT infrastructure to the cloud of an external IT service provider
For the digitization project, Münchenstift relied on the expertise of CANCOM – IT service provider and experienced digitization partner in the healthcare industry. In the first step, the entire IT infrastructure was outsourced to it and migrated to the cloud, moving the managed data to secure and redundant CANCOM data centers in Germany. In this way, Münchenstift switched from a self-managed and growing IT landscape to a system that relieves the company of technical management tasks. The new scalable IT infrastructure provides the basis for new digital services that save both time and money in the long term.
Flexible, digital workplaces achieve enormous time savings for nursing staff
A mobile workplace concept that enables all Münchenstift facilities to implement pioneering care management was also part of the digitization program. With the CANCOM AHP Digital Workplace, Münchenstift received a turnkey digital workplace architecture that offers a secure, mobile, flexible, and virtual workplace environment with all applications.
The additional use of mobile devices gives employees secure, location-independent access to work-relevant applications and customer data, even when they are at home in need of care. Customer documentation now takes place directly during outpatient care, eliminating the need for subsequent transfer to the relevant systems. The time saved on administrative tasks by the entire staff is thus increased enormously.
Reduction of administrative effort through self-service portal
Part of the digital workplace is a user lifecycle management portal that allows IT administrators to manage virtual workplaces more efficiently and employees to work more independently thanks to the self-service features: New accounts, for example, can be created quickly by themselves and passwords can be reset without the help of the IT department. With the “Secure by Design” approach of the CANCOM AHP Digital Workplace and outsourcing to a certified data center in Germany, CANCOM ensures the security of highly sensitive healthcare data.
Scalable IT infrastructure for flexibility as requirements change
Together with CANCOM, it was possible to implement a holistic project plan that will enable Münchenstift to continue to respond agilely to changing requirements in the future without increasing internal administrative overhead. The high level of automation and scalability of the CANCOM AHP Digital Workplace gives the company the ability to implement new requirements cost-effectively. Employees can be equipped with a digital workplace in minutes instead of days, and sites in days instead of weeks.
“CANCOM has created the basis for us to offer new digital services and thus provide even better care for our residents. We now have a scalable IT infrastructure that creates more time for person-centered care and, at the end of the day, even saves costs,” sums up Siegfried Benker, Managing Director of Münchenstift.
Münchenstift aims to become leading digitized care facility in Germany
With the help of 2,000 employees, Münchenstift covers one-third of the demand for long-term care places in Munich and puts people first. In doing so, the company regularly sets new standards for contemporary care concepts and quality and attaches importance to modern working conditions for all employees in order to continuously improve the standard of care. With this highly standardized and secured digital workplace environment and its ambition to continuously improve care quality, Münchenstift is a big step closer to its goal of becoming Germany’s leading digitized care facility.
