- All-round carefree package including all active network components for use exactly as required
- As a carrier-neutral provider with its own backbone, CANCOM also offers the necessary WAN connections
- Innovative SD-WAN platform from CANCOM partner Cisco massively increases the efficiency of data traffic in the customer network
With CANCOM SD-WAN as a Service, companies use their wide area network – WAN for short – like a service according to the “as-a-service” principle. The offer includes all components necessary for an innovative WAN design, including active network components such as routers or switches. CANCOM provides these to the customer on a monthly billing basis.
“Until now, anyone who wanted to use an intelligent, software-controlled SD-WAN network first had to make an upfront investment and purchase the necessary hardware,” says Alexander Ernst, Director Network and Communication at CANCOM: “With SD-WAN aaS, this investment hurdle is now eliminated. The customer receives the active components from CANCOM and can start at short notice. This is a decisive advantage, especially in the current, Corona-induced economic situation”. Later, the network can be quickly and flexibly adapted to changing requirements such as new locations or additional users – precisely according to actual needs and without any upfront investment.
Cisco SD-WAN platform enables more efficient traffic
In addition, the intelligent, software-driven technology of the SD-WAN platform from Cisco ensures more efficient data traffic with maximum security: Whereas with classic WAN the traffic is usually routed via a central data center, SD-WAN aaS enables direct data exchange between different locations without detours. It is also possible to communicate directly with the public cloud via an SD-WAN virtual router, for example, for IaaS or SaaS offerings. The customer network is thus practically extended to the public cloud. Thanks to Multicloud Connectivity, this also applies when different cloud solutions need to be connected. There are also many other scenarios in which SD-WAN aaS makes sense, for example, if strict separation between different systems or areas within the network is required for security reasons.
WAN connections from CANCOM also possible
As a carrier-neutral network provider with its own MPLS (Multiprotocol Label Switching) backbone, CANCOM also offers customers the option of WAN connections from a single source in addition to SD-WAN aaS. Worldwide partnerships with the leading carriers enable global connecting. Companies therefore have all access technologies at their disposal – from xDSL, DarkFiber and Ethernet to radio-based solutions such as microwave, LTE, 4G or, in future, 5G. In this case, customers benefit from just one contact for the entire WAN including SD-WAN aaS thanks to End2End orchestration. And when it comes to access technologies for a specific site, companies can choose from the offerings of the various carriers: A decisive advantage if, for example, an LTE or 5G radio connection can be used for “the last mile” at a site – and the otherwise necessary civil engineering work is eliminated.
Expansion of the existing “as-a-Service” portfolio
With SD-WAN as a Service, CANCOM complements its range of “as-a-Service” offerings such as Digital Workplace as a Service based on CANCOM’s own solution AHP or Dynamic Cloud – behind this is Infrastructure as a Service from CANCOM’s own data centers in Germany. With its “as-a-Service” concept, CANCOM is responding to the ever louder call for IT infrastructure solutions that can be used exactly as needed without investment hurdles, thus enabling sustainable cost flexibility.
