CANCOM Pironet: Rich growth of 25 percent expected: Small SMEs discover ERP from the cloud / ICT budget benchmark

Cloud applications are not only found in large companies, small and medium-sized enterprises are now also turning to the cloud. The results from the ICT budget benchmark by techconsult and CANCOM Pironet show that the increased acceptance does not stop at ERP from the cloud. According to eAnalyzer, techconsult's online database for ICT spending, expenditure on cloud ERP will increase by around 12 percent annually by the end of 2019. This is largely due to the fact that reservations about cloud solutions are shrinking. In particular, by offering ERP solutions from German high-security data centers, many concerns about data security have been eradicated. "In view of the numerous benefits that ERP from the cloud offers companies - especially from the perspective of smaller SMEs - it is very understandable that user demand is currently rising strongly. This is evidenced in particular by the current results of the ICT budget benchmark by techconsult and CANCOM Pironet," explains Verena Bunk, Senior Analyst at techconsult. "Overall, we foresee a 25 percent increase for the German market in the period from 2017 to 2019 among companies with fewer than 100 employees."

Excellent scalability interesting for startups

The advantages of cloud ERP for smaller SMEs are evident: one of the most important drivers here is, unsurprisingly, the cost factor. Compared to on-premise solutions, the costs of procuring and operating an in-house IT infrastructure, including maintenance and suitable premises, as well as license fees, are eliminated. With cloud models, billing is purely based on actual demand. For small companies with limited resources, this is a factor that should not be underestimated, because traditional ERP solutions are often provided with a large number of functions that are not used but are still charged for. If demand increases, additional IT resources can be easily added. This excellent scalability is also particularly interesting for startups, which thus save the costs of setting up their own IT infrastructure. Otherwise, the IT resources would not be able to keep up with the rapid growth of many companies.

In addition, cloud ERP solutions score in terms of flexibility, in the sense of easy addition of services at certain loading times or also through the easier connection of further applications via corresponding interfaces (APIs). Mobile access to the ERP system has also become a must in the increasingly digitalized working world.

Self-check with the ICT benchmark

Based on the eAnalyzer from 2018, techconsult and CANCOM Pironet have created the ICT Budget Benchmark, a tool that helps companies compare the size of their ICT budget with the budgets of other companies in the same industry and of the same size. This makes it possible to position the company in the competitive environment and identify areas where there is potential for savings or a need for investment.
