CANCOM looks back on 30 successful years in the IT industry
The IT service provider continues to grow and sees itself well equipped for the future
Strategic focus in the coming years will be on data and business solutions, Everything as a Service and investment in future technologies
On 27 January 1992 CANCOM was founded by the students Klaus Weinmann, Stefan and Raymond Kober to expand their salaries while studying. Today, 30 years later, the company is one of the largest and most successful IT service providers in the DACH region and is one of the 90 most valuable listed companies in Germany. CANCOM remains on course for growth: with its corporate strategy for the coming years, the management is setting the course for further expanding the business and strengthening the footprint in the DACH market.
CANCOM looks back on three decades of dynamic growth. Over the past 30 years, the IT service provider has continuously developed and expanded its portfolio with an eye to the future, making a valuable contribution to the business success of its customers with state-of-the-art digital solutions & services.
“I am more than proud to be part of the CANCOM family. What we have created together over the last 30 years is nothing less than the very good starting position for CANCOM’s continued successful future. It is only because of the special achievements of our employees and their passion and willingness to transform that our company is in the best possible position today,” explains Rudolf Hotter, CEO of CANCOM. “We are very optimistic about the future. Together we will continue to drive forward our customers’ digitalisation issues.”
From IT reseller to number 1 hybrid IT service provider
CANCOM’s success story began after its foundation in 1992 as one of the first authorised partners of Apple in Germany with the sale of hardware and software. This was followed by IT solutions, IT consulting and systems integration, and finally the complete operation of IT environments including comprehensive IT services. Over the years CANCOM has become one of the largest IT system houses and managed services providers in the DACH region, able to cover all IT needs across all industries from a single source. The company has always used the dynamics of IT for its own continuous transformation and continues to pursue ambitious goals: CANCOM aims to become the number 1 hybrid IT service provider in the DACH region by 2025.
In the next few years, CANCOM will therefore focus on addressing data and business solutions as well as standardised Everything-as-a-Service packages. But the industry focus, for example in the public or healthcare sector, is also to be further strengthened. In addition, CANCOM plans to expand its expertise in relevant future technologies such as artificial intelligence through strategic acquisitions of companies. Another top priority is cyber security and control, which are currently the most critical factors for business operations.
“Even back then we correctly anticipated developments in the IT market and knew what our customers needed. We have always been one step ahead of digitalisation,” says Klaus Weinmann, CANCOM founder and CEO of the investment company Primepluse, explaining the IT company’s continued business success. “CANCOM’s transformation from a student-run business to the leading digitalisation and business partner for companies, organisations and the public sector is, in my view, unique.”
“We will find a suitable time to celebrate”
The celebrations surrounding the anniversary will have to wait a little longer due to the pandemic. “Since the current situation unfortunately does not permit any events at our sites with all our employees, we will probably postpone them until the summer months,” explains Rudolf Hotter and gives hope: “At CANCOM we have always liked to celebrate. We will find a suitable time, I am very sure of that.”
